You too can become a part of Civil Defence! Government employees who join this service will also be eligible for casual leave.

Civil Defence Volunteering is a group under the Fire & Rescue Services (Fire Protection Force) of the Government of Kerala. It includes doctors, paramedics, ham radio operators, technicians, JCB and ambulance operators, fishermen, and Kudumbashree activists who have joined as volunteers.  
This project aims to empower communities to handle disasters effectively by involving trained volunteers. Its main goal is to organize disaster response and recovery efforts through volunteers skilled in disaster management.

Goals of Civil Defence Volunteering:
- Raise public awareness about disasters.  
- Build a network of trained disaster response volunteers.  
- Collaborate with Fire & Rescue Services for disaster prevention and mitigation.  
- Support post-disaster recovery and rehabilitation efforts.  

Activities and Training:  
Volunteers receive expert training in various disaster management skills, including:  
- First Aid  
- Search and Rescue  
- Firefighting  
- Swimming  
- Communication Systems  
- Disaster Psychology  
- Camp Management  
After completing the training, volunteers are equipped with uniforms and personal protective gear to assist in their service roles.

Awareness Programs:
Awareness programs on disaster management are conducted to educate the public. Activities include:  
- Awareness sessions in schools and colleges  
- Rallies, exhibitions, and seminars  
- Distribution of informational materials like pamphlets and posters  
Mock Drills:
Mock drills are held to prepare volunteers to handle real-life disaster situations effectively.  
Equipment:
Volunteers are provided with essential rescue equipment to carry out their duties.
How to Join Civil Defence:
The Fire Brigade aims to have 1% of the population as Civil Defence volunteers, recognizing that locals are the first responders in any disaster.  
- Any physically able citizen aged 18 or older can join.  
- Interested individuals can contact their nearest Fire & Rescue Station or apply online at: [cds.fire.kerala.gov.in](http://cds.fire.kerala.gov.in).
- Selected applicants will receive free training.  
- Government employees need permission from their office heads to join. During training and service, they can avail of casual leave based on a certificate from the District Fire Officer.
